SEVEN SNAKES NEW YEAR READING / Link to tickets
The Year of the Wood Snake is finally here, and it asks us to channel our most creative, perceptive, and charming selves. On January 29, join seven readers as they summon the serpents, attend to mysteries, and share writings across genre and form. Seats will be arranged in a long, winding shape, with readers performing around the snake. Audiences will be encouraged to slither down the seats every so often.
With Woogee Bae, Justine Chan, Amy Hirayama, Ell Lin, Mita Mahato, Jenne Hsien Patrick, and Dujie Tahat.

Join us on a tour of Stephanie Syjuco: After/Images and Twilight Child: Antonia Kuo And Martin Wong using Ekphrastic writing to explore the bond between language and art. The Frye's partnership with Unpoetry asks local writers to generate pieces based on current exhibitions, with the goal to inspire deeper engagement of the museum space and the artwork it holds. This session will feature Justine Chan, Troy Osaki, Jenne Hsien Patrick, and Patheresa Wells, and will be hosted by Amy Hirayama.

Rice, Blood, Sugar: a New Work by Leanna Li Keith
LINK TO INTERVIEW WITH LEANNA LI KEITH IN THE INTERNATIONAL EXAMINER ON THE COLLABORATION
Composer/performer/artist Leanna Li Keith teams up with poet/writer/artist Jenne Hsien Patrick to dream up this experience of sound and language. Both with shared backgrounds as mixed-Chinese Americans, Keith and Patrick have been discussing their experiences with heritage language for the past four years. Rice, Blood, and Sugar is the result of that ongoing conversation and process. The performance of the piece features Keith as flutist/vocalist/conduction artist, Kaley Lane Eaton as vocalist/pianist/banjo player, Heather Bentley as violist/cellist, and Alina To as violinist. Additionally, the performance will be opened by a reading of works by Omar Willey.
